Studies of conformational changes in heme proteins following laser photolysis. A short pulse of laser light is used to produce a sudden change in the state of ligand binding. Spectroscopic changes as well as changes in ligand binding properties subsequent to photolysis are used to monitor functionally significant conformational changes.
